Hey! Got to meet with Lane Wallace, West coast editor of FLYING magazine, this past weekend. Having been invited up to visit with Lane by Rene Vercruyssen, we (myself, Bill & Bob from Lincoln, CA) flew up in a 3-ship Cub formation. The BBQ get-together was for the 60th Anniversary of Ranchaero (O23) Airport. What a marvelous hideaway airport, amongst the orchards of Chico, CA. The "Old-Farts" there were fantastic to meet, be around, speak with and get to know. You should have heard all their "war-stories", the laughter, and the love & romance of flight itself. Gary Thompson, (propriator of "Aero Fabric" aircraft restorations) has an amazing library/museum, with bits of aviation history and memorabilia dating back to Charles Lindberg (Gary now owns Lindburgh's antique Honeymoon Boat), and beyond. A vast array of aviation books and literature littered with notes, articles and paraphernalia all logging Gary's past experiences all for his son & grandkids to discover. You should see Gary's masterful...dare I say "Artistic" work in restoring all types of aircraft, especially his favorites - Tube & Fabric Taildraggers. T' is a wonderful place, one that everyone should stop and see when you are out and about in the Chico area!
